Will Grand Rapids Poison Center Be Shut Down?

May 9, 2009, 7:46 pm

The Helen Devos Children’s Hospital Regional Poison Center in Grand Rapids may have to close if — as looks probable — state funding is reduced or eliminated in Michigan’s 2010 budget.  Mlive.com reports that Gov. Jennifer Granholm last week cut nearly $175,000 from the current funding of Michigan’s two poison centers. (The other is in Detroit.)  Spectrum Health, which runs Devos Children’s Hospital, has announced that without state support they can no longer afford to continue operating the center.
