Poisoned? Death of Iranian Doctor More Mysterious Than Ever

December 19, 2009, 1:11 pm

There is an excellent story in the Wall Street Journal about the life and death of Dr. Ramin Pourandarjani, an Iranian military physician who some believe was murdered because he refused to cover up torture and rape witnessed at the Kahrizak detention center near Tehran. Initially the government claimed he died in a motor vehicle accident, and later claimed he had a heart attack.  After an autopsy it was stated that Dr. Pourandarjani was poisoned by a salad laced with a fatal dose of propranolol.  Since the WSJ states that the autopsy itself was conducted by the Iranian government, it seems that reliable information about the death is still lacking.
