Tox Tunes # 11 – Mickey’s Garden (1935)

Okay, this is not really a “Tox Tune” — it’s more like a tox “Looney Toon”. But like the “nose powder” clip from Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, “Mickey’s Garden” — only the second Mickey Mouse short produced in color  — gives amazing insight into the role of drug themes in early twentieth century American motion pictures.  It is full of psychedelic imagery, mystical symbols such as the ouroboros, and references to both Amanita muscaria and psilocybin.  Stick with the clip — the really good stuff starts at around 3:20.

Tip of the hat to DoseNation for leading me to this YouTube post.
