Tox Tunes #29: Got to Get You Into My Life (The Beatles)

In the 1997 book Paul McCartney: Many Years from Now, Sir Paul claimed that this track from Revolver was not about a girl but really a love song to  . . . marijuana: “‘Got to Get You Into My Life” was one I wrote when I had first been introduced to pot . . . So [it’s] really a song about that, it’s not to a person”.

There are, indeed, some lines in the lyrics that might support this notion:

I was alone, I took a ride,
I didn’t know what i would find there
Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there

A song about drugs? That’s Sir Paul’s story and he’s sticking to it.  However, I can’t help but feel he’s putting us on>

This was, I believe, the first Beatles song to use a horn section, probably inspired by the music coming out on the Stax and Motown labels.
