K2, Spice, and the “new” marijuana

The “New” Marijuana. Wells DL, Ott CA. Ann Pharmacother 2011 March;45:414-7.
This article reviews synthetic cannabinoid products such as K2 and Spice, claiming to focus on those containing the research chemical JWH-018. As the authors note, there is very little scientific literature describing toxicity from these products. For an paper published in a medical journal, this one is pretty up-to-date, even mentioning that on November 24, 2010 the DEA temporarily classified 5 synthetic cannabinoids as Schedule I substances. Still, the authors rely on a number of web sites, some of which — to my eye — appear less than credible, and the paper doesn’t relay any information that isn’t available and even more current on Wikipedia.
